Gene Gaffney served as band director at Detroit Lakes
Senior High School for 30 years, retiring in 1998.
Prior to that, he taught in North Dakota for 11 years.
The Detroit Lakes High School Band was selected, on
two occasions, to perform at the Minnesota Music
Educators Convention in Minneapolis. The Laker Jazz
Band was selected to perform at the Kiwanis Inter-
national Convention in Minneapolis . Gaffney was
named band music educator of the year for the state
of Minnesota by the MMEA in 1991. He has served as
clinician/conductor in several states. Gene and his wife,
Eloyce, have four children and eight grandchildren.
